QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Law degree is required.
  • Creative with ideas, approaches, and means in practically applying laws and principles to deliverable programming.
  • Knowledge of Government of Syria and Self Administration juvenile justice systems and relevant ministries tasked with juvenile care; and experience working with government officials.
  • Substantial professional legal experience within the Syrian and Self Administration judicial systems, specifically with family law and juvenile justice.
  • Ability to work in an environment known to be administratively and politically complex.
  • Substantial experience working with families, social workers, court investigators, adjudicators, and police.
  • Ability to design and coordinate training.
  • Strong people management and problem-solving skills and proven experience supervising other staff, demonstrating the ability to build, motivate and support a team effectively.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • A commitment to equal opportunities and the promotion of gender equity in all aspects of SC’s work.
  • Ability to take initiative and readiness to work under difficult circumstances.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Preffered
  • Good representation skills, dynamism, and ability to influence others effectively.

Job Description:

  • Provide technical legal guidance regarding Self Administration constitutional law and judicial
  • procedures related to justice for children, as well as criminal and family law.
  • Review Self Administration justice for children procedures and compare with international standards and in turn develop reform recommendations for relevant government ministries.
  • Map legal protection mechanisms in Northeast Syria and identify legal resources to support children and their families at the community level.
  • Liaise with relevant ministries related to juvenile justice, such as the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Women, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the Bar Association, the Jurists Union, courts???.
  • Collaborate with case management assistants and officers to develop durable reintegration plans for children in contact with the law.
  • Consult with children, parents, community members, police, lawyers, judges, and other experts regarding legal protection mechanisms and children’s rights.
  • Participate in the development of awareness materials on children’s rights.
  • Design and implement trainings for SC and partner staff on local legal protection mechanisms for children and families, including but not limited to: children’s rights, justice for children, and international standards for the administration of juvenile justice, and conflict mediation mechanisms.
  • Write weekly reports on activities, minutes of meetings, and trends analysis.
  • Contribute to drafting of monthly and final reports, as well as funding proposals.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
